Award Eligibility Post

untitled

Hello intrepid readers…well, those of you that are still hanging in there with me.

It’s been a helluva year. I hope that all of you are doing well, or as reasonable an approximation to well as you all can manage. We have finally entered SFF awards season, and as you can tell by this post’s title, I will be running down the list of my published and associated works for the year 2018 for Nebula and Hugo award nomination purposes. If you are an eligible nominator and will be participating in the awards process, please consider the following:

My sole Hugo and Nebula award-eligible offering for the Short Story category is “Dying Lessons,” published in July 2018 in Strange Horizons’ Southeastern USA Special Issue, which was edited by Sheree Renee Thomas, Rasha Abdulhadi, and Erin Roberts.

FIYAH Nominations

It’s been a great year for FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction. We started the year off by winning the Amplifier Award from Barrelhouse. Our year one cover artist Geneva Benton was awarded a Hugo in the Best Fan Artist category. All props for that go to Geneva for producing four spectacular covers for us in year one, and to our amazing Art Director L.D. Lewis for handling cover art and too many other things to name. I wish there was an award I could give her for being the shit. Peep L’s award eligibility post here, and do consider nominating A Ruin of Shadows in the Novella award categories for the Hugo and Nebula awards. It was one of my favorite reads this year.

Our poetry editor Brandon O’Brien is an exemplar on what it means to be a SFF professional. Check out his eligibility post as well.

Justina and I also won a freakin’ WORLD FANTASY AWARD in the Special Award – Non-professional category for our work on FIYAH, which is still blowing my mind.

We’ve published an eligibility post for our editors, writers, and cover artists on our blog, which you can check out on our site.

Finishing out this post reminding myself that although it’s been a difficult year for my writing output, I can still bask in some victories and I have been very, very productive.

If you’re reading this and have an eligibility post you’d like to share, please do so. I actually love reading these types of things. Writing them, not so much.

Next up: a Year-in-Review post! Bet y’all thought I forgot. Also, be on the lookout for a location update for this space. I think it’s time to try on some big boy draws.

See y’all soon.
